ABOUT ME

CLINICAL APPROACH & EXPERIENCE

I am a warm and open-minded clinical psychologist, who truly enjoys the privilege of getting to know individuals, while creating a shared understanding of the problems they might be facing. I believe that building a trusting and safe therapeutic relationship is the key to effective therapy.

I have extensive training and experience in a range of evidence-based psychological approaches, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and schema therapy. I prioritise a flexible approach in the way in which I apply these models, and will tailor a therapy suited to each individual and their unique needs. I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, as well as families.

I have a particular interest in the treatment of eating disorders, having worked in the area for over 6 years within both public and private settings. I have received supervision and training from established leaders within the field, completed my PhD on the subject of anorexia nervosa, and contributed to published research on eating disorders. I am also fully credentialed by the Australia & New Zealand Academy for Eating Disorders (ANZAED) to treat eating disorders.

I also have experience treating a range of clinical presentations, including mood disorders (e.g. depression), anxiety disorders (e.g. obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder), and personality disorders, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder. A great deal of my experience has also centred around addressing relationship difficulties, early attachment trauma with caregivers, self-exploration and identity, as well as issues surrounding grief and loss.

I am also a Board Approved Supervisor and am able to provide clinical supervision to students undergoing their clinical training.

FEES, REBATES & CANCELLATION POLICY

In an initial therapy session, it is my goal to begin to understand your reasons for seeking therapy, and the nature of your current concerns. I also find it helpful to explore your mental health history, and gain a sense of what your relationships with others has been like, including your early life experiences with caregivers.

Many people will naturally feel nervous about seeing a therapist for the first time, and this tends to ease as we continue to meet regularly. The duration of a course of therapy can vary considerably depending on the nature of the difficulties you may be facing, however weekly sessions are generally considered a good place to start in working toward meeting your goals for therapy. We can continue to review how often we meet as therapy progresses.

Therapy sessions are 50 minutes long, and cost $240 (this rate remains below the $300 consultation fee recommended by the Australian Psychological Society). If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, you are eligible for a rebate of $136.35 per session through Medicare, and this will cover you for 10 sessions within the calendar year. An Eating Disorder Plan (also from your GP) will cover 40 sessions and provide the same rebate amount ($136.35) for 12 months.

I require 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or change an appointment. A cancellation fee of 50% will be applied if under 48 hours’ notice is given, and this increases to 100% if less than 24 hours’ notice is provided to change or cancel and appointment. It is worth noting that Medicare does not cover cancellation fees.
